| Allen is a city in Collin County, Texas, having a population of 43,500 as per the last census. The city is spread over an area of 26.3 square miles, all of which is land. The city is located at 33°05'59?N, 96°39'47?W.
Allen was founded in 1870, and served as a railroad stop in the Houstan and Texas Rairoad. The town takes its name from former attorney general of Texas Ebenezer Allen, who was also the railroad promoter. Allen was the scene of what is believed to be the first train robbery in Texas that was committed by a gang of robbers in 1878. Several children's television shows were filmed in Allen.
The Allen Independent School District , which serves most of Allen has 13 elementary schools, 3 middle schools, 1 freshman center, 1 alternate school, and the Allen High School . Small portionsof Allen are cevered by Lovejoy, McKinney , and Plano ISDs. Allen also hosts a campus of the Collin County Community College District.
The Allen Arts Alliance and the Allen Parks and Recreation host the annual summer sounds concert series that offers free enertainment every Monday night from 7 p.m., and stretches over a period of five weeks. The Allen Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra provides regular symphonic concerts. The Allen Parks and Recreation procvides avenues for a host of outdoor and open space activities and recreation programs.
