| Carrollton derives its name from its early settlers who came in the early 1840s from Carrollton , Illinois . The main industries included grain and cotton. Brick was introduced at the turn of the century. The name was made official in 1878. The city of Carrollton is geographically located in the Dallas/ Fort Worth Metroplex in North Central Texas and is well positioned as a national and international business location.
Carrollton has one of the highest occupancy rates of around 93% for industrial and commercial area. Valwood Industrial Park , Frankford Trade Center , Austin Ranch, International Business Park and Trinity Mills Industrial Park are five major industrial parks in Carrollton.
Carrollton has several world-class art galleries and museums. Performing arts such as opera, ballet, and symphony are other attractions.
Carrollton has several parks, playfields and other amenities. There are over 1100 acres of dedicated parks, 900 acres of undeveloped parkland, and nearly 800 acres of private parks. Other amenities include sports complexes, nature areas and golf courses.
