| The settlement of Cedar Hill was established in 1848. .During the early days, Cedar Hill served as the temporary capital of Texas County . A tornedo that swept through the town in 1856 killed nine people and destroyed most of its buildings.
Cedar Hill is located 16 miles from downtown Dallas in the south west corner of Dallas County . The Joe Pool Park and Cedar Hill State Park are adjoining landmarks. Cedar Hill is located at 32°35'18?N, 96°56'50?W
The city is full of native evergreen red cedar trees. It is located 500 feet above sea level. Its elevation makes it an ideal place for the location of antannae for local radio and TV stations as well as for Tornado tracking radar equipment.
The city is diverse in its composition unlike some of the surrounding cities that tend to be concentrated with one or more ethnic groups.
The city boasts of several museums, churches, libraries, and civic irganizations. It has a growing shopping and eating area that provides services to an estimated 1,750,000 people. The city has added over two million square feet of retain area in the last four years.
