The Carroll Independent School District (Carroll ISD) is an independent K4-12 school district serving the city of Southlake, Texas and portions of nearby Grapevine, Texas . The district is named for B H Carroll Jr., a former Tarrant County school superintendent and son of the founder of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary .
Carroll ISD is consistently ranked among the top-rated school districts in Texas, due in no small part to the demographic reason. The district and all of its schools were often all rated "Exemplary" by the Texas Education Agency , the highest ranking possible. However, in 2004-2005 the district was dropped to the "Recognized" ranking (the second-highest possible).
The football team is consistently among the top-ranked class 5A teams in the state (and the last two years has been ranked #1 nationally, going an incredible 63-1 since moving to the 5A classification, with three championships in the four years since moving to 5A), and tickets to Carroll home games are among the hardest to obtain in the area. (All season tickets, representing almost 3/5 of the home field seating, are perenially sold-out, and the 2004 game against Denton Ryan High School, which was featured on ESPN, saw tickets being sold on eBay for several times above face value.) Also, Carroll's Junior Varsity Volleyball Team was district champions in 2005.
The district consists of two high schools (Carroll High School serving grades 9-10 and Carroll Senior High School serving grades 11-12; 9-10 graders are eligible for varsity sports), two middle schools, two intermediate schools, and five elementary schools.
School spirit is exceptionally strong in the district: all of its schools share the same colors (green, black, and white) and the same mascot (the Dragons). The Carroll Dragon logo (a fire-breathing dragon head superimposed over an outline of the state of Texas) is among the most recognized logos in the DFW area.
